Fire Suppression Systems + Log Books

Questions:

  1. What do you use for fire suppression on 390/870 Size Excavators and up?
  2. What do you use for fire suppression on D9 to D11 Dozers?
  3. Do you have the full fire suppression system or use 25lb fire extinguishers?
  4. What does your site use for light vehicle and heavy equipment log books when workers complete a 360 walk around?

Answers:

1. We only use smaller excavators, and these do not have fire suppression installed on them. They do have 20lbs cartridge extinguishers install on both the cab and the other side of the excavator.
2. All dozers have a 100 lbs. dry chemical fire suppression system with both manual and automatic deployment. The engine bay has both fire eye and fire wire flame/fire detection.
3. All equipment has a minimum of 2x 20 lbs. Fire extinguishers and all major equipment (dozers, loaders, haul trucks, shovels and draglines) have fire suppression systems installed. Most are dry-chem, but the electric shovels and draglines also have FM200 systems in the PCR rooms and electrical cabinets.
4. There are no logbooks in light vehicles, but all other equipment has a logbook which remains in the equipment and gets a new logbook annually. We also have equipment inspection forms which are completed when doing a walk around inspection prior to operation. These are done daily and handed in at the end of each shift with timecards. The equipment inspection forms are in a booklet, which each operator has. This provides them with a carbon copy of each inspection they perform.
