Training Programs

Is your organization offering any training programs focused on fatigue management or shift work? If yes, kindly provide the course details, including costs and the provider, if applicable.

  1. At this time we do not but are in the early stages of looking for such training.
  2. We do not , but I would also be interested to learn more.
  3. We provide computer based learning training on fatigue management as part of our training requirements for all employees. The CBL was developed internally and does not cost any money.
  4. We do. We do annual fatigue management training. We use CAT safety service. It is usually 1.5 hours and covers topics like:

The bodies clock

  1. We don’t have any formal programs for "training" , we have utilized the DSS (Driver Safety System) in our haul trucks , its a camera that looks at blink rate and eye focus of the operator. If they nod off or are not looking at the road a vibration in the seat or an audio warning comes up. The operators are removed from the unit for breaks / conversations if they exceed a number of these events in a shift.
  2. We are working on a pilot training program as we have initiated the Driver Safety System (DSS) on the haul trucks.   We have an internal WBT for fatigue training but it is targeted for the offshore platform workers.  Site B has a similar WBT for fatigue but it is very dated and there is a strong sense of using the new content Site A is developing. The company that is developing the training package specific for mining is Solaris Fatigue Management and our point of contact is Mike Harnett. Home - Solaris Fatigue Management (solarisfm.com)
  3. As an administrative control, we currently have Web Based Training (WBT) courses for Fatigue Awareness. Fatigue is also incorporated into orientation and equipment training companies (again as an awareness piece).  Fatigue is also a part of our Life Saving Rules training: Fit for Duty: Be in a state to perform work safely. In terms of Engineering Controls, we have implemented DSS (Driver Safety Systems) and are currently in the implementation phase for CAS (Collision Avoidance Systems) in all equipment and light vehicles. Cat MineStar Detect | Operator Fatigue and Distraction | Cat | Caterpillar – CAT has some great Fatigue resources on their DSS information page.
