Ramp Grade

What is the grade rating for Heavy Hauler ramps at your site?

---

  • up to 10% but usually no more than 4%., we do not have a procedure currently that covers this as the clients are prime mostly.
  • all our ramps are designed 1 of 2 ways.  If the ramp has a straight decline into the pit with no obstructions (parallel with pit) we build them to 8%.  If the ramp comes into the pit perpendicular and no runaway ramp is in place, we design to 5%. Also, once a ramp is built, we have engineering go out and survey the slopes before it is used, just to ensure the ramp does not exceed the slopes
  • design at a 8-9% grade for our ramps which are short ramps (8 meter elevation change maximum over about a 100 meter duration/run).  The engineers suggestion would be to define a “ramp” requiring a run-away lane as anything beyond a 10 meter elevation over a 100 meter run. A run away lane or run out lane can be as simple as the road continuing into bottom of the pit. Whatever the run out is, it should be in alignment with the ramp so you don’t have to make a turn to utilize it.
  • Our standard designs are 5%, however sometimes if a ramp is temporary or due to space constraints we do use up to 8% ramps at times
